Sponsorship: Roland UK and elt Society

Roland UK
elt Society

Championship 2008 is tremendously grateful to Roland UK and elt Society for their major sponsorships for the event. This means we have invited some of the most reputable organ players to entertain us. Together with these invited performers, the sponsorship also enables a much more interesting and exciting package for all the performers in the two Concerts and the Competition.

In particular, we have both Yamaha and Roland organ models for performers to play in the Concerts and Competitions. So this is a prime occasion when we have Yamaha and Roland players coming from around the world.

Further, you will be amazed by the concert audio-visual facilities. These are provided by a joint effort from Roland UK, elt Society, and Basildon Organ Club. Performers will find these facilities can enhance their performances, and the audience will enjoy the music more.

"Electronic Keyboard and Organ Grades 2006-2008 syllabus": http://mercury.tvu.ac.uk/lcmexams/KeyboardOrganSyllabus.pdf

You can also choose from "Performance & Teaching Diplomas 2008-2010 Syllabus" for Electronic Organ:
http://mercury.tvu.ac.uk/lcmexams/ElectronicKeyboardAndOrganDiplomaList2008.pdf, you can choose from:

  • DipLCM in Performance - "Performance" section (pg 10).

You can also Use

  • ALCM in Performance - "Performance" syllabus (pg 11), any of the items 1 to 3 (Latin, Jazz, or Big Band with live percussion), your own medley or a sound track to accompany your own synopsis (you present the synopsis to the examiner when you submit your Final stage application)

Note that your performance will be judged by your performance standard, presentation and maturity, irrespective of whether you choose your piece from the grade or the diploma syllabus. (That means, if you choose a piece from the Diploma, it does not mean you automatically will get more "marks" than if you choose from the Grade syllabus.) The Diploma syllabus occupies more space in this box simply for clarity, nothing else! :)

Competition 2008 Final: 'Colours and Moods'

12th Oct Afternoon

The theme of the Competition is "Colours and Moods". Contestants are asked to, as best as they can, select their music that fits this theme.

Competition has three categories:

  • Susuami, under 12 years old
  • Arvanitika, 13-17 years old
  • Dahalo, 18 and over (no age limit)

This is your age on 12th October 2008.

Contestants first enter the Preliminary Stage of the competition. Closing date is 1st June 2008. Successful Preliminary contestants will then apply to enter the Final (deadline 6th July 2008) which takes place on 12th October 2008. You enter Preliminary by sending us a recording of your performance made on any electronic organ. For the Final, you will perform on one of the organ models stated in Overview above.

Apply early! Different from previous years, the adjudication for Championship 2008 is done on a "first come first served" basis where we will aim to give you a decision within 4 weeks (but hopefully shorter than that). That means if you apply on 1st March, we can give you our decision by 18th March. After you apply and before we give you our decision, you can improve your performance and give us a new recording.

To find out all the details about the competition and how to enter, please click here. You will also see the entry form on that page.

Showtime! Concert

12th Oct Evening

Being the final programme of the weekend, the Showtime! concert will feature a variety of music and style aimed to entertain. Playing on any one of the organ models (stated in Overview above), you can perform a popular classics, musical, rock, pop, jazz etc. etc. This will work best if your piece fits in with what others are playing, so you may need to be flexible.

4. Adjudication

The adjudicators are Chris Stanbury, Chiho Sunamoto and Michael Wooldridge.

This panel of adjudicators will decide the winners of the Competition. In each category, we will have First Prize, Second Prize and Third Prize winners, giving a total of nine winners across the categories. The panel will also select winners for both the Concerts.

5. Deadline for entry to concerts and Competition

Please apply early! Concerts will be full when we have enough players. Competition will be full when we have enough finalists. We will also have players and contestants on waiting list in case some people are not able to make it. We set a closing date of 1st June 2008 for Competition Preliminary but you are advised to apply early as we deal with contestant entries on a "first come first served" basis.

6. Questions?

If you have any queries, please contact us. We expect you have many questions since this is a large event, so just contact us and we'll do our best to reply you so you know what the event is about and how you can participate.

7. Entry forms

Entry forms are available here.

For your information, in early 2008, we already have about 10 performers. Some play in Concerts, some enter competitions, or both. Please apply early to avoid disapppointment.
